Mos Def - Say You Will (Kanye West Cover)

Found this today. Doing a live performance at N.Y.C.’s legendary Blue Note Jazz Club on Jan. 25th 2009, the Might Mos covers Kanye Wests "Say You Will." The band's jazzy instrumental cover is interesting.

Jaspects

Here's an interesting six piece jazz/hip hop band out of Atlanta you should check out. I became a fan of this band with their 2007 release "Double Consciousness".

Being born during the hip-hop movement, Jaspects integrates their youthful skill to progress music and build a bridge between musical genres in ways parallel to Earth, Wind, and Fire, Tony Toni Tone, and The Roots. Formally trained jazz students at the illustrious Morehouse College, Jaspects’ goal is to produce an exhaustive musical experience that involves TRUE freedom of expression via musical and lyrical creativity.



The band consists of pianist/music director T. Brown, bassist Jon-Christopher Sowells, drummer Henry "HC3" Conerway, III, tenor saxophonist Dwayne "Spacey" Dugger, alto saxophonist Stagolee, and trumpeter James E. King.

They're new release is entitled "The Polkadotted Stripe". I haven't heard it yet but I'm sure it will be interesting. Check them out when you get a chance at www.myspace.com/jaspects

Dre Marshall

Gotta give a shout out to a Christian Hip Hop artist name Dre Marshall. I met toward the end of last year at a Gospel Fest & I gotta be honest, it's not the typical hip hop that I would normally listen to because of it's commercial trends but I really liked his performance, he's a really nice young man & gotta give him props for trying to live right & for spreading the gospel. Janelle Monae

Came across a singer that has her own unique style. There's is nothing typical about this young lady, coming surprisingly from Bad Boy Records. Definitely not typically what we're used to seeing & hearing from Bad Boy. Way to go, Bad Boy, for doing something good but not typical. Check her out at www.myspace.com/janellemonae. Dionne Farris

Depending on the style of music you listen to, the name Dionne Farris may be familiar to you. We first heard her vocal prowess on the 1992 hit song "Tennessee" with Arrested Development.
